In September of 1984, RL Montgomery had an encounter with the Lord Jesus Christ that left him profoundly changed. For many years RL had attended church and had even been baptized. However, on this day in September, he discovered that being baptized and attending church were just not enough.

At the time he was working for Milton Green Ministries as a soundman. During the alter call of this particular meeting in September, he found the word of God touching his spirit in a way he had never experienced before. As he sat at the sound board in back of the auditorium and with his back to the wall, he heard an audible voice behind him say, “RL, I don’t know you.” He turned around to look, but of course, no one was there. It was just a blank wall. In his spirit, though, RL understood the message very clearly. It was Jesus speaking. He was saying that RL had never developed a personal relationship with Him. He was telling RL that he was not saved! In all his many years of going to church and even now working as a soundman, RL had never had a salvation experience. Almost the instant he heard Jesus speak, RL began to understand what had been missing in his life all these years. Rushing out from behind the soundboard, he quickly asked a stranger who was attending the meeting to watch the board for him, and without a second thought, rushed down to the front and straight into an encounter with the Lord Jesus Christ. As he stood before the Lord that day, RL had a conversation with Jesus that lasted several minutes. When asked what was said, he modestly replies, “Oh, we just talked.” Amazing! What RL didn’t know was what was going on around him as his conversation with the Lord continued.  People began to back away from him. Later more than one person asked if he was OK. When he asked them why, they told him that it had gotten very hot all around him as he had stood there. He was so deep in conversation with the Lord that he was unaware of this.

As he walked back to his seat, all he could do was cry. And for three days after that all he could do was cry. The Lord had lifted such a burden off of him that he, himself can hardly explain it. When he got back home, he was a very changed man. Oh, and his family saw it and could hardly believe it! RL had spent more than 24 years in law enforcement and had developed such a hardness that little if any love and compassion actually got through. But now, love was king of RL’s heart and of his life.

One year later, RL began a missionary ministry of bringing the Gospel, and supplies from the US, to needy people in Central America. That missionary ministry continued for over 13 years. In that time, God never failed to supply all he and Janie (his wife) needed for the work they had been assigned.

A few years ago, RL and Janie began a new  missionary ministry in Mexico. They discovered a group of islands off the coast of Mexico (in the Gulf of Mexico) that was so remote and difficult to get to that the people had never heard the word of God! RL and Janie are now in the process of building a church on the largest of the islands, Juan A. Ramirez Island (or is it Juana Ramirez?). When it is completed (some time in late 2006 or early 2007) RL and Janie will stay there as residents of the island preaching the gospel and raising up ministers to go to the many other islands in the area. You can, of course see pictures of the activities on the island and read up on the current news in the RL On The Road newsletter.

We ask for you prayers for their success and hope that you might find it in your heart to send a donation to help them in their work. Just click the donations link above.

Thank you and may God richly bless you!
