R.L. on the ROAD!

Vol. 3, No. 1

August 27, 2007

Greetings in the name of Jesus Christ!  Blessed is the man who walks not in the counsel of the ungodly nor stands in the way of sinners, nor sits in the seat of the scornful, but his delight is in the law of the Lord and meditates in the law both day and night (Ps. 1:1-2).

We apologize for being so late in getting this update to you, but it has been such a busy time that we truly haven't had the opportunity to sit down and chronicle all that has gone on until now.

In March we went to the Royer Orphanage.  Aida Royer Peña, Pepe Royer's older daughter, went with us to pick up the metal roofing for the Casa de Unión that happened to be north of Monterrey, Mexico.  Thanks to the people associated with Pastor Buck Proffer and Brent McMinn, the metal roofing had been acquired in March and sent to us in Mexico.  Brother Stan Tatara, Pastor Arlan Whittingler, and the Church of Clarence, New York, made trusses of four sections per truss.  They cut the lumber and assembled the sections by gluing and screwing them together.  Stan brought a trailer loaded with trusses, but had so many to bring that he couldn't haul them all.  He sent the rest to us via Fed Ex Express! We picked them up in Del Rio, Texas.  We also brought additional lumber for purling and bracing from a list that Brother Stan faxed to us.  We had to make two trips to the island to take all the lumber.  We also took insulation down in two trips.  Each of these trips was roughly 500 miles from the Texas border!  All the lumber had to be bought in the U.S. because the oak wood in Mexico is not cured and thus warps and twists as it dries.  Pine is very expensive and hard to get to the island, besides STILL not being cured.

Blessings and thanks to Pastor Arlan, Brother Stan, Dwight McMinn, Brian Martinez, Mike McDonough, Andrew Sanchez, Brent McMinn, and Burl Ragsdale (not to mention several more men from the island itself) for the beautiful new blue roof.  Mike McDonough preached at our nightly meetings while he was here.  Stan and Daniel (the secondary school teacher from the island) played guitar, while Dwight played the electric drums.  The people really liked the music and the preaching.

The list of friends who have provided invaluable help in taking this project forward is substantial:

Elias De La Fuente & family

Installed eight electric fans and the fluorescent lights (donated by Calvary Christian Center, Georgetown, Texas).

Pastor Micah Mueres & Dwayne Masserang (River Road Baptist Church, Amarillo, Texas),as well as John Fink, Richard Smith, and Matthew Cox

Installed all the electricity.

Carol Cooper of Uvalde, Texas

Came to help Janie with all of her duties.

Dan Wegelin, Todd Clifton, and Andrew
Sanchez of Colorado Springs, Colorado

Installed the doors and the trim for the doors and windows.
Rick Savoy Set up and administered our web site, rlontheroad.org.

And, of course, you remember (from our last newsletter) Bobby Gibbs of Houma, Louisiana, who came down to the island and got sick.  Praise God for his quick recovery!  We'll have another newsletter soon!
